Forever Cowgirl® Buckle & Scholarship Award
When you think of a forever cowgirl, you might picture a little gal
riding her pony or a seasoned woman gathering cattle or sheep
on her trusted steed. In Ten Sleep, Wyoming we remember both
of these visions and a red-haired young lady with a creative spirit
and a love for horses, family and the western way of life. We
think of a girl with a bright smile, warm heart and generous
nature who left us all too soon.
Joslyn Cabre was a vibrant young woman with a great many
talents. She was an inspiration as a cowgirl, a friend, a designer,
an artist, a volunteer, and had just started her own cattle herd.
Her love of horses, family and community brought her to be an
integral part of the Ten Sleep Rodeo. She had also found a new
passion in the barrel race competition and was training prospects
and invented a barrel racing tool. Her aim was to preserve and
promote the Cowgirl and ranching way of life. Her website
forever-cowgirl.com and former Australian Shepherd dog breeding
program are reflections of this.
After her passing from Hantavirus in 2013, the former Beauty & the Beast Rodeo named the Barrel Race in her memory and the TenSleep Rodeo Association and Queen contest included the Joslyn Cabre Sweetheart Award. This award went to the young lady who displays poise, sportsmanship and confidence during the queen competition.
This is the tenth year Joslyn’s family has offered a Montana Silversmiths Forever Cowgirl™ memorial buckle and scholarship. The Washakie County or Big Horn County girl who earns this buckle and scholarship may use the money to begin or further her equine knowledge. This may include riding lessons, clinics, farrier school, books and/or instructional DVD's.
